The "14 Fish" thing is just a basic Qabalah meme. All hebrew letters have a meaning associated with them. Aleph-1-Ox, Beth-2-House etc... And for the 14th letter (Nun) that is a fish. I guess jewish kids may even learn this in school with the alphabet... Like US kids may use animals, A-1-Ape, B-2-Bear etc. Difference is, that the relations for hebrew letters are better established in old tradition and therefore stronger.

Different gods through different cultures often represent the same principles and energies. Often they represent planets. Just think about how many sun-gods or sun-heroes there are, other than Horus or Jesus or Super-Mario. But this is more on the bright side. The dark would more be concerned with adversary-types like Set, Saturn, Satan or Bowser.
I don't think it's that odd. There is a whole christian flair of Qabala, which is typically written with a C instead of a Q.
